You don’t have to go to university

You don’t have to go to university if you check one of the below:
-I don’t know what to do with my life
-I am just passionate about a specific subject
-I want a job after I finish university

I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MY LIFE

1. high school
2. bachelor’s degree
3.maser’s degree — meanwhile have a job
4. work your ass off so you have a well-paid job
5. get married
etc.

This is just another recipe in life and is not suitable for everyone, for some may be but not for all. Just because it does not fit you it doesn’t signify you are a loser and doom to fail in life. If this doesn’t match your vision, have the courage and make your own way into the world. However, that is hard and it requires a lot of perseverance and sacrifices because those who exit the social patterns are seen as “dangerous” and the unbeaten track is full of obstacles.

Better than studying for 3 years (or 5) something that won’t help you or you are not interested in just don’t do it and, as far as I am concerned, you won’t regret that. Before choosing your degree I recommend you to try out different things, go to some courses (audition them ), see if you like the way information is delivered, take a part-time job and decide if that field fits you, talk with students about their experience etc.

I AM PASSIONATE ABOUT A SPECIFIC SUBJECT

My advice, if you are passionate about something and you don’t want to earn your living out of it, it is more like a hobby for you, than read a book, use Google or just take a short-course. You don’t need a degree for that

I WANT A JOB AFTER I FINISH UNIVERSITY

A degree doesn’t guarantee you a job but it can make it easier to find one. To some extent, the role of a Bachelor’s degree is to give you a set of basic information/knowledge that you can use in your future job. Although, for a job more are required than that, soft-skills and experience that you won’t acquire in the higher education system (or at least this applies only in Romania). For a professional practice, you need more than what you learn during the courses. At the end of those 3 or 5 years, that diploma will tell a future employer what you know not what you can do. My advice would be to do plenty of volunteering and participate in other activities like internships during your college years if you want to find a job as quick as possible after you finish your degree.

My little sister is in her last year of high school and she is starting to ask herself what Bachelor’s degree she should choose. Those are some pieces of advice I gave her out of my experience (I am not sure she understood what I told her but I hope she will read this). I also hope they will help you too.
